Constructed in 1881, it had modifications in 1931, 1974, and 1979. M.B. McGinty, a builder from Athens, Georgia, completed it. The jail is a two-story, 33 feet by 26 feet red brick structure designed in the Italianate style. Food was prepared by the Sheriff’s Office at the Detention Center, and officers delivered it to the homes of numerous elderly people using four-wheel drive vehicles. Additionally, these officers brought medications, helped remove snow from these residences, and provided free assistance to a citizen who needed help fixing their heater.
